About the braid
The shape of a Kongoh Gumi braid is set by the size of the starting groups. To try this out, we went for 1, 2, 3 and 4 as group sizes, 10 threads in total. This gives a braid of 4 spirals with a different stitch length on each spiral. We will have more variations on Kongoh Gumi in the future.
How to use the designer
Use the colour picker to choose your thread colour. If you use it on the braid, it will be added to your colour list so you can easily choose it again. Click on the thread you want to colour in the braid diagram.
Some braids allow you to change the number of threads. If available, you can use the "+" and "-" buttons to change the number of threads - active internet connection required.
Marudai instructions
The point of braid will tend to drift as the thread groups are so unbalanced.
Disk instructions
This is similar to a standard 16 thread kongoh-gumi braid, but with different sized groups. The direction of rotation changes each time so you can keep the larger groups of threads at the top. As long as you move the thread from the large group first, the braid is more balanced. As you work the braid the slot numbers will change - always take the top right thread down and the bottom left thread up.
